Sunday, February 19th, 2012

We are on our way into town because my daughter she wanted McDonalds so she can get my little pony toys from the happy meal. While in the car she has been playing her Nintendo 3DS and she decided to do this lovely cute artwork of Mario on her 3DS.

I figured I shared this with all of you because I had my phone on me and remembered I can blog on the word press app while I am out and about.

Comic Creators For Freedom Work in Progress.

Friday, December 16th, 2011

I’m pulling this post from my comic website at Decimated Eden.com

For those of you who doesn’t know, Lora Innes of The Dreamer Comic is leading the Comic Creators Alliance again this time with a new name. The CCA is now known to as the Comic Creators for Freedom (CCF) and all information about this event is located at their website.

The CCA was created to help fight human trafficking and many of us comic creators have joined with Lora to make a huge digital wallpaper for the cause. Those that have chosen to donate will receive a digital download of the wallpaper for their desktop. I believe there are other ways to support the cause to stop human trafficking as well like buying prints for those that want to have a physcial form of the themed wallpaper.

Two years ago the CCA had raised up to $10,000 for the both Love146 and Gracehaven, last year $5,000. With over 100 comic creators participating last year an about 80 the year before. I would like to spread the word to my fellow comic creators or even ARTISTS out there that may be interested in joining. You don’t have to be a comic creator to join I don’t think, but it would probably be preferred since it requires you to have a female character to participate in the themed wallpaper. If you don’t have a comic but a character I’m sure it would be fine to use a link to your art portfolio or something. You might have to email the head director in all this to find out.

This is also a good way to get exposure for your site and it is for a good cause. You may also learn a thing or two about the cause and why organizations like Love146 and Gracehaven was formed.

Well I did get started on working on the image for the CCF yesterday and I’m pretty say I’m happy how it’s turning out. Although there are issues to the pose and stance that kind of bothers me. Especially the perspective part on one of the legs of the character. There is a 1 hour video posting of it on my livestream channel to see the process of the image piece. Though I doubt anyone would want to sit and watch how slow I draw for an hour. The image is at the stage of coloring right now and trying my best to make it look nice. Here’s the work in progress.

So far that is what I have. Hopefully I will get it done before the end of the month. I might have to bring my tablet with me to get it finished up or work on it with my old graphire tablet. I’m not very keen on bringing so many electronics to New York / CT with me though but if I have to get things finished I may have to.

Artwork Update.

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

So I have been spending some time on my webcomic, Decimated Eden and I was doing great for updates even though the updates were a bit delayed until midday, but it was getting updated. However my AC decided to fritz out and the past two weeks we have no AC and I’ve been trying to cut down on the heat in the house by not working at my desktop for long periods of time unless the house was cool; which some days it was cool. At least it’s transitioning into the fall season where as if it was in the summer I’d be dying in the house for it would be like 99 degrees or something.

Well this week I got the chapter three cover completed for Decimated Eden. Well as complete as I was going to get. I need to practice on my background painting  and coloring again. I suck at backgrounds now. I guess unless I sketch it. I’m also working on a pin up of Kurashu Hime no Yume which is posted as a picture up above. More of a screenshot but something I am working on. A new coloring technique. I’m also debating on whether or not to make Chapter 3 in color. I know it would take more time  to complete but maybe color comics will bring in more readers that are interested in it? I don’t know. I can’t do  such an experiment on it without knowing  what will happen. So maybe I’ll make my side project in color or poll it for the readers.

This is the work in progress image for the Chapter 3 cover. It is actually completed compared to this image but I can’t post the completed product up yet until Chapter 3 is ready to go live. However, though I might have to tweak the cover a bit cause I’m not sure I like how it looks. I went back to doing the border thing around the background but I think that’s so old school. I mean would you guys prefer something like this?

Or something more like this?

I’m not too sure on what I want to do although I could use the character bio template and alter that a bit to fit the cover. I also need to redo the logo to something suitable. I still want to do the cursive “de” thing with a nice font and the ball but I want it to look recognizable you know.

Urg well I got more to blog about so this is just the first of many many posts to come.

I know I’m not a very good blogger and it seems I’ve neglected  my duties here but of course  with the few readers I have I’m not in a hurry to update. =3 I guess I should probably post my giveaway soon. That could get some people interested.

The Digicon

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Well I will be participating at the Digicon this weekend. WiProbably doing livestream drawing or video chatting with fellow artists. You’re probably asking “what is digicon?”

Digicon is an online convention, created for those that couldn’t make it to big cons like SDCC. However it is not made to replace any actual convention. It’s more like an artist alley gathering online.

So if you’re interested in this and want to chat with other webcomic artists or want to learn a few thingd from them please do stop by and check it out.

Website Commission Request Part 2

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

If you want to understand this better read Part 1

So it’s been a while and I’ve been trying to post this. Continuing the commission request from part 1, this request was canceled just before Christmas 2010. Note, she did state, when we started this  commission that she was using blogger for her blogshop. After the seal rendition the client was happy but not completely yet. So she asked me to make the mouth wider as if it was smiling. So I did as shown here:

So she said it was perfect and to get rid of the eyebrow. So with that finalization I started to ink and color it in. She hasn’t told  me what kind of color scheme she wanted with the seal and has told me to choose the colors for it and I did so. This is when she told me she wants the site to be done before Christmas. So with the Seal  character done, I went and created a mock up for the site. So after 4 hours of messing with colors and layout scheme then looking at the samples of layout she would like for the site to look like, I came up with this layout.

Layout Mock Up Numero Uno

It was basically almost exactly the same layout template she sent me and I was willing to do changes to it, however the client was not satisfied. She also came off as rude to me for some reason because in every email reply that she sent me and if she didn’t like anything with the work in progress she  would start off saying “ummm.” It as  almost as if she was saying, “this is not what I said to do,” when all she did was send me links to other site templates and tells me that she wanted the site to look like this this and/or that. So it was the same layout as this <a href=”http://www.honeycolor.com”>site</a>  and complained to me that it looked like it was bad quality. Sadly I don’t wish to send HIGH RES work in progress to any client until the job is completed. As well the WIP images are always watermarked, plus it’s faster to send low res files than high res files. She then decided to change her mind on the layout because it didn’t suit what she wanted. She also stated that the Seal character was not working as well and told me to make it a puffy cloud character instead. That’s so far three  characters so far she’s requested to do. That’s about $50 dollars worth of character design art each character so far for a $150 website design.

She said it would be the LAST change, as well as asking me to do a whole different layout scheme with the new character. So I emailed back saying that the more changes she ask me to do and redo layouts and characters the longer it’s going to take to get the site done. It might  not even be done before Christmas at this rate. So she says she understands the situation cause of her not knowing what she really wants and then  sends me more samples of how she wants the site to look like. So took a deep breath and churned out another layout template mockup as well as a new mascot character. This is my 2nd website  mockup:

As it looks like this site’s main page. Everything to her specifications on the redo, and I even went and searched for the exact font that she wanted me  to use. Here is her response to me:

"the cloud and header looks werid ._. D:
and also why does it look kinda...um like just a blog skin?instead of a shops kinda thing"

My response:

"You said you were using blogger for your shop. In order to make a webshop on blogger layout
I have to make it like a template. and most site layouts you see are templates."

Then she asks about what would be the best place for a blog shop, cause she want me to tell her which is the better  one and that she wants  the website to look the best it can. I had to explain to her in a huge email about how blogshops and wordpress works.

So after this email she said she didn't know how blogskins work and state she won't do much major change, then ask how much extra she would have to pay to get hosted on my site and get the same results as Kiwiberry. So when I emailed her the new quote, I also had quoted that I am still charging for the characters that she had made me create for her. She didn't seem to like the quote cause I added the charge of the characters designs to it when she doesn't want the character designs and then told me in a final email that she is cancelling the request and that I could keep the $50 prepayment.

So yes a lot work done for this client and have NOT gotten passed the mock up stage of the requests. No where near getting the layout cut up coded to HTML/CSS. It was just a bit annoying to work with someone like this and I was being patient with her all the way through until she wanted another big change to the site. It seemed that I would do exactly what she wanted but she didn't like the way it looked cause I sent her a low res work in progress image and decided to try to force me to copy a layout from another site and incorporate her logos into it.

I have never worked with a client that just can't make up their mind on anything. This was just a dizzy experience.

Either way I'll be posting these layout screens on my dA site to add to the portfolio even though it's not being used at all. As well as the character designs.
